Eydhafushi was dismantled by Green Streets in tonight’s game.

The night fixture of match day 4 featured two teams looking to rebuild from their losses on their first games. The match started unexpectedly with an own goal from Eydhafushi in the 20th minute. The half then went on to end with Eydhafushi looking to rebuild from their mistake.

In the second half however, the Green team coached by Sampath went on and scored two goals in quick succession 9 minutes in. The goals were scored by Ahmed Bassam in the 53rd minute and Abdulla Yaameen in the 55th minute. The game then mostly went Green’s way. Although to to their surprise Eydhfushi built a great attack and Ahmed Abaan Ali scored in the 73rd minute. However, any hopes of a comeback was erased by Ahmed Tholal’s 77th minute strike which ended in the Eydhafushi net. The game ended 4-1 in Green Street’s favour with their jersey no.7 Abdulla Yaameen winning the man of the match award.

The group B is is now strongly competed strongly by last year’s finalists Eagles and Green Streets and the underdogs New Radiant in United Victory colours, and Maziya. Although their first 2 games ended in defeat Eydhafushi has a slight chance of still making it through to semis if they win all their games and depending on how other matches go on. Group B seems to as competitive or even more so than group A as all teams except Eydhafushi now have 3 points in their bag.

This year’s tournament has been one the most competitive tournaments in recent Maldivian football history. Friday’s (match day 5) night game will showcase Da Grande against TC which could be an important game in how their group will shape up.

Stay tuned to Boalha.MV for more updates on that game and the tournament.
