Inter School: How group D has lined up for the last round of group stage games
Inter School Football Towards Future

If by chance you happen to pass by the National Stadium in the busy central and main road of the capital city, Majeedhee Magu, the area is filled with chants of supporters. Win or lose supporting their team in the best way possible. Currently it’s the last group stage games ongoing and today will hold the last two of the group stage games. The group D teams will be battling out for a spot in the quarters.

However, before we start off with group D, let’s a look at the other groups that have finished their group stage games. Ghaazee who leads group A is followed by Thaajuddin with a win in their last group game aided by Ghaazee’s thumping of Jamaluddin into the quarters. Quarter finalists from Group B however was confirmed rather early with Dharumavantha and Hiriya winning their first two games. However, holding the 100% record with just one goal conceded and 20 goals scored, Hiriya is coming into the quarters as underdogs of the tournament. Group C however, came as the biggest surprise. For a group with 3 powerhouses of inter-school football, before the tournament nobody expected Aminiyya to make it through to the quarters. Nevertheless, the last group stage games ended in favour of Majeedhiyya (9 points) and Aminiyya (6 points), which takes both teams to the quarter finals. Ahmadhiyya gets knocked out with just one win and that was against Muhyiddin who lost all their games.

Group D

This group includes of defending U-15 inter-school champions Imaduddin, Iskandhar who made it to 3 consecutive finals in the age group in the previous year, a revitalized Rehendhi side and a Ghiyaasuddin team who hasn’t performed as well.

Tomorrow’s first game will see a battle between Iskandhar and Rehendhi for top spot or just a chance in the quarters. Imaduddin in the following game will be aiming to knock several goals past a Ghiyaasuddin side which has scored only one goal. Other than Ghiyaasuddin all other three teams have an equal chance of making it to the quarters.

Iskandhar and Rehendhi game’s result is tough to be predicted as Iskandhar showed a great performance against Imaduddin despite the loss but came back to life with a 5-0 thrilling win against Ghiyaasuddin. Rehendhi on the other hand won against Ghiyaasuddin 4-1 in their first game and followed that up with a 2-1 win against Imaduddin. So both teams seem to have plenty of attacking power and there is all to win for both sides. Imaduddin against Ghiyaasuddin however, seems to weigh heavy on the Imaduddin side as per their performances.

For Rehendhi a draw or a win can suffice but for the other two teams it’s a win at all costs. If Rehendhi loses against Iskandhar they have to pray their goal difference is not overcome by Imaduddin in the following game if they are to make it to the quarters. A second can even change the whole game though and these are just mere predictions based on previous performances. It’s all to play for in group D and stay tuned to Boalha.mv for more updates on the matches. For a more convenient usage, download the first ever Maldivian football application, Boalha.mv app.
