For the past 5 years the title is being won by the side where Ali Ashfaq (Dhagey) has sported and according to the new TC coach, that needs to be changed.

Talking on Boalha.mv’s special interview series for the coaches sporting in the upcoming season, Mohamed Athif (Aathi) said that the first thing he looked into after being appointed as TC Coach was seeing how many players have stayed in the club from the previous season. Unfortunately, 3 of the top players of the title winning TC team, including Dhagey left for other teams.

“For the past five years Dhagey has been involved in the title winning campaign of every team. The team he is in wins the title. But, that needs to change, and that’s a huge challenge for me.” Aathi said speaking to Boalha.mv.

The newly appointed coach also said that last year’s title winning campaign was due to the hard work of the TC Management and coach. He especially remarked the work done by title winning TC coach, Mohamed Nizam (Nizambe).

“I hope the players and the managers are dedicated. All for I know, I am a dedicated person.”, said Aathi speaking to Boalha.mv as he talked of giving a good challenge to the competing teams. He also said he hopes of repeating last year’s feat of TC winning the title.

He says that the result can change in unexpected ways, but the team and management are set on winning the title. He also said he talked to the players regarding the SAFF Championships and the National Team’s performances. Aathi said the national side is able to win the SAFF Championship once in every ten years despite going into the tournament every time saying it’s our year. And if the country is to win the title repeatedly, individual players and clubs need to work two or three times harder than they do now. He says he has instilled that mentality into the players.

Aathi is one of the most successful coaches in the country and played a vital role in bringing together the national women’s team.
