Mohamed Akram has signed with Minivan Championship runners-up Foakaidhoo FC as the goalkeeper coach. Former Club Valencia goalkeeper has signed for Foakaidhoo FC for the upcoming Dhivehi Premier League campaign.

BoalhaMV caught up with Akram after Foakaidhoo's friendly match tonight against United Victory. Akram told BoalhaMV that he joined on the request of current Foakaidhoo FC coach Ali Nisthar Mohamed. In 2017 Akram also worked with Nisthar in Maalhos Sports Club.

When asked about the Foakaidhoo FC squad, Akram said that he is very happy with the squad and that it was a pleasure working for such a young squad. "I have been away from the football scene for a very long time, I am pleased to be back" Akram added. Akram also said that besides the Pakistani shot-stopper Saqib Haneef, FFC also has few young Maldivian goalkeepers. According to Akram these goalkeepers can replace Saqib when needed with proper training.

When asked about the guidelines set by the Football Association(from next season Maldivian clubs are not allowed to sign foreign goalkeepers), Akram said that he appreciated the guidelines for the good of Maldivian goalkeepers, and that it is their chance to shine.

"Guidelines alone cannot make great goalkeepers, they should be provided with training and opportunities as well" concluded the former Valencia custodian Akram.
