Maldives started their joint Asian Cup/ World Cup campaign with a 1-0 Victory over Guam.

Ibrahim Mahudhee(Feydhoo Ibbe) scored the only goal of the game in the 26th minute. The Maziya striker scored from inside the box to the far corner of the goal to kick start Maldives campaign. Home team Guam were unable to hold the Maldives attacks with Feydhoo Ibbe, Naim and Asadulla Abdulla(Asako) beating their defense at will.

Maldives slowed down their attacks in the second half somewhat satisfied with their one goal lead. Ten man Guam pushed Maldives in the second half coming close from a long balls.

Maldives will play against favorites China on the 10th in Male'. 

Coach Petar Segrt who has said that qualifying to the World Cup is his aim when he took over, was delighted with the win. "We played my attacking football, this young team, we have 17 year old players" the Croatian Tactician said after the game. Segrt also congratulated 'his people' the Maldivians after the game.
