Two Goals Not Enough As Maldives Fall To Syria

Maldives lost 2-3 to Syria in the ongoing Asian Games qualification group C match.

Ibrahim Savee scored the opening goal of the game heading in captain Hassan Nazeem Gassim's(Choatu) freekick. Six minutes later Savee was at the wrong end of a cross that deflected the ball into the net for Syria to make it 1-1. Mohamed Alawad Almalhem scored with a far post header after goalkeeper Aleef saved from a cross.

Choatu again scored with first time finish starting the run, passing it to Husam who dribbled into the penalty box, defenders closing on Husam ball falls to Choatu who makes it 2-2. The winner came in the 62nd minute with Amar Ramadan scoring with a spectacular volley to make it 3-2 to Syria.

The defeat leaves Maldives with no points in two games. Later tonight Lebanon will play against favorites Tajikistan. Maldives will play their last group game against Lebanon on the 6th of October.
