Chinese state media reports have suggested that the upcoming World Cup and Asian Cup joint qualification match between China and Maldives will not be played in China and the match would likely take place in Thailand behind closed doors due to the outbreak of Covid-19 virus in China.

Chinese FA reached a agreement with the FA of Thailand for the game to be played in Thailand's Buri Ram province. The province is home to Thai league champions Buriram United. The Chang arena is home to Buriram United and seats 32,600 spectators.

Chang Arena is the only stadium in Thailand to be owned by a Football Club all other stadiums are owned by the Thai Sports Authority. The stadium also hosts a number of international matches of Thailand as well as the AFC Champions league has been played in the stadium.

Maldives vs China is scheduled for the 26th of March however it is not known if the date maybe changed. China will be desperate to take all three points from Maldives after a disappointing loss to Syria and a draw against Philippines.

Syria sit top of the group with 15 points while the Azkals and China are on level points with seven. Maldives are fourth in the standings while Guam sit rock bottom of the group.
