The Football Association of Maldives has suspended all footballing activities indefinitely due to outbreak of Corona virus. The virus has taken a sweeping haul on world sports with a number of activities being cancelled and many other events being delayed. 

The suspension followed after the government ordered all sporting venues and facilities to be shut down including the running tracks and swimming areas of Male'. Yesterday the government shut down all parks in Male'. 

The suspension means all academy will also be suspended as the FAM turf grounds will also be closed to follow the governments orders. In a statement the FA said that the suspension of Footballing activities comes after advise from the Health Protection Agency. 

This leaves the FA cup and Presidents cup in doubt. A official of FAM who spoke to Boalha.mv said the competitions may be scheduled for a date when the Corona virus situation resolves.

Maldives had two World cup qualifiers scheduled for March. The Red Snappers were to take on China in Buriram, Thailand followed by a home games against group leaders Syria in Male'. Both games have been called off. 

Local government authorities are taking a number of steps to try and solve the outbreak. The Maldives has 13 confirmed cases of the virus and has banned a number of flights from countries including Spain, Italy, Bangladesh and many more.
