FA Maldives has decided to postpone the association congress upon the request of AFC and FIFA. The congress was due to take place tonight at hotel Jen.

The decision come as Maldives battles with a coronavirus outbreak. FIFA and AFC requested that it would be best for the congress to be held once the situations becomes stable. President Bassam Adeel jaleel term ends in November but on a request by Bassam FAM's Exco decided to hold early elections. 

After the decision to hold early elections, interested candidates were give the chance to submit their papers to run in the general elections. Only Bassam filed the papers.

Bassam's election for a second term was therefore confirmed after a majority of the clubs announced their backing for him. Clubs including Maziya, Green Streets and TC were the first to back Bassam. The last remaining first division club to back Bassam was Club Eagles. 

New Radiant launched an effort to push for a no confidence vote of Bassam but the least number of signatures by clubs was not met. Both New Radiant and Victory Sports Club are suspended a decision on the future of both clubs will be decided during the congress if the suspension should be lifted or extended. 

New Radiant was suspended for failure to pay wages and Victory was suspended after the club failed to field players for a number of games in the league. 

Bassam's new executive committee is made up of former national striker Ali Umar who is his senior vice president. Maziya CEO Hussain Shaafiu (Kokky) is his second vice president while other members of the committee include current senior VP Ahmed Shakeeb, Mohamed Shifau, Eagles CEO mufaviz Hashim (Mufa), former president of TC Ahmed Nasheed (Dave) and president of Club Green Streets Muaviyath Haleel (Muaabe) and Aminath Shaneez.
