IMRAN REJECTS THE INVITATION BY NATIONAL TEAM

Former national team goal keeper, Mohamed Imran has turned down the invitation by FAM to attend a team meeting.

Imran was asked to join the meeting as the new head coach Peter Segrt, wishes to include him in the 50 players that he has selected for the national team squad. Imran said that he declined the invitation because he has retired from national team and does not wish to get back.

Imran started playing for the national team in 1999 at the age of 17. He retired in 2016 after 111 appearances for the national team. His biggest achievements include the SAFF Championship in 2008 where he displayed an outstanding performance. His brilliancy was also recognized in 2004 when Maldives drew against South Korea and in 2014 AFC Challenge Cup when Maldives secured third place in the tournament.

National team head coach, Peter Segrt has stated that he will provide the opportunity for all players to play for the national team. He wishes to gather a team to gain success in future as per FAM’s “Towards Future” motto. He has also stated that he wishes to grab success from every tournament Maldives participate along the path to create a better team for future.

Maldives national team requires leaders like Imran to build the future of Maldivian football according to Segrt. As such, He has requested these leaders to lead the team in order to reach his target building a strong team for the future.
