FAM PLANS TO ORGANIZE A SPECIAL EVENT FOR ASHFAQ’S RETIREMENT FROM NATIONAL TEAM

The Football Association of Maldives has recently announced that they are planning a special event for the national hero, Ali Ashfaq, who has announced that he wants to retire from the national team.

Speaking to media, FAM’s President, Bassam Adeel Jaleel stated that Ashfaq’s service to the nation should be celebrated and they are planning to grant Ashfaq a huge farewell. He has also stated that they have come to an agreement with him to schedule a special match to mark retirement during August before the national team departs for the SAFF Championship this September.

The 32 year old wonder has stolen hearts of every Maldivian supporter with his magic on the pitch since his debut in 2003 when he was just 18 years old. He has scored 52 goals from 78 games for the nation and has many records to his name. His biggest achievement is the SAFF Championship in 2008 where his talent was the reason Maldives won its first regional tournament in years. Ashfaq has won a lot with different clubs and the national team and he is currently the best player Maldives has seen.
