This year’s second division football tournament will kick-off today evening. Unlike previous years, the number of participants has dropped for this year. In this year’s Football Association of Maldives 2^nd Division, there will be only ten sides competing for the first division promotion. This year's 2nd tier football will be carried out in association with Maldives Post Limited and Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), as they will be supporting the second division sides financially.

Groups and tournament fixtures has already been finalized and announced by the FA Maldives.

In group A, Kuda Henveiru , B.G Sports Club, Club P.K and Dhivehi Sifainge Club (D.S.C).

In group B, Club Zefrol, Da grande Amigos New Generation (Da G.A.N.G), J.J Sports Club and Mahibadhoo Sports Club.

Last year’s runner up Kuda Henveiru and champion Club Zefrol was promoted to Male League 2018 Qualification. But due to financial and other reasons both club decided not to take part in the ML qualification and there for the bottom four teams were automatically qualified for Male League 2018.

Kuda Henveiru will be led by experience former Club Valencia coach, Mohamed Asif (Kuda Heena). Under whome Valencia lifted the FA Cup in 2016. B.G Sports will be led by Coach Muaviyath Ilham (Ille). Club P.K will be led by Coach Nafiu. And champions of third division 2017, Dhivehi Sifainge Club (D.S.C) will be featuring with the same master mind, Coach Ahmed Nashid (Naadh), under whom they lifted the third division trophy last year.

On the other group, Club Zefrol will be led by former Maldives senior men national team’s assistant coach, Coach Assadh Abdul Ghani, Da Grande Amigos New Generation (Da G.A.N.G) will be featuring under coach Mohamed Fareed, J.J Sports Club will be led by former Maldives senior men national team’s assistant coach, Ali Nasheed (Ayya).

Unlike previous years, the teams will be coming out with very experience coaches and teams have already added good foreign players to their respective squads to strengthen the team.

In the opening match, today evening, Kuda Heneveiru will meet B.G Sports Club. Match will kick-off at 16:00 Hrs evening in the FAM turf ground, Maafannu.
