Dhiraagu Dhivehi Premier league is headed for a huge break of almost 2 months as per the new match schedule issued by FAM today. As per the new schedule matches scheduled for 29-31 July has been cancelled and play will resume in Dhivehi Premier league on 26th September 2018.

While Dhivehi league has been on a mini break to give the National Stadium for the Independence day events, the new change has brought about an unprecedented long break for the newly formatted Premier league with 10 teams.

The break might have some minor positive impact, majority of the clubs would not want such a huge break in the middle of the league that's just 4 match days old. Other than just the financial aspect, loss of form and match fitness and moral may affect the clubs. Especially the Minivan Championship sides might be hit hard.

Last Year's football calendar had the same issue of short and long breaks in between the season which was highly criticized by most coaches and did not have a positive impact on the players or the spectators.

While Maldivian football lovers may have to wait almost another two months to see a match on the national stadium, The Maldives National Team is schedule to play the SAFF Championship and the women’s National Team schedule to play the Asian Games during this break, which ensures there is going to be a lot of Football taking place, just not in the league.
