National Team getting ready for the SAFF SUZUKI Cup
National Team starts to get ready for the SAFF SUZUKI Cup.
The team will travel directly to Bangladesh after the training camp in time to play their opening game against Sri Lanka on the 7th of September. Maldives National team is expected to play a few friendly games in the Qatar, we will bring you the news as we get them.
Maldives plays their first game against Sri Lanka on the 7th September and then against the powerhouse of the region, India on the 9th. Top two teams will qualify to the semi finals from the 3 team group. In the other group the hosts Bangladesh will play against Nepal, Bhutan and the resurgent Pakistan.
Petar Segrt has started preparing his team for the SAFF SUZUKI Cup to kick off in Bangladesh Next month. The Nation expects to win the Championship first time since 2008. Segrt has also brought in his former physical trainer Valdimir Krunic and his former assistant Gela Shekiladze.
The talking point is however, the exclusion of the National legend, Dhagandey (Ali Ashfaq) who Segrt deemed too old for the World Cup Squad that he intends to lead Maldives into. The former captain has been in exceptional form this year scoring 25 times for New Radiant and TC Sports combined. His exclusion has the supporters divided.
Segrt has called up experienced players Baka (Ali Arif) and Aku (Akram abdul Ghani), who is recovering from injury. The squad also includes the clinical striker Asadulla Abdullah. The 27 man squad left Male' on the 6th of September.
