Maldives Women’s team loses to hosts Indonesia.

Maldives lost their opening game 6-0 to hosts Indonesia.

Group-A match between Indonesia and Maldives saw Indonesia thrash Maldives by 6 goals. Goals for Indonesia were scored by ZP Mayang(2), Muzdalifa Zahra(2), Sada Yudith Herlina and Sari Jasella Arifiya.

Maldives will next play against South Korea while Indonesia will play Chinese Taipei. Earlier in group-A game South Korea beat Chinese Taipei 2-1.

Talking to BoalhaMV after the game, Coach Mohamed Athif “players did their best to their ability.

“Even when we came here, we knew we are playing against teams of a different level, but still saying that and not playing will not do us any good. We need these games to develop the team”. Athif said that performing in these tournaments is good for the team’s future.

Maldives Men’s team did not participate in the Asian games this year. According to the Football Association of Maldives the absence of Maldives men’s team is for the team to get ready for the SAFF Championships in Bangladesh. The men’s team are currently in Qatar training for SAFF Suzuki Cup in Bangladesh.
