OPINIONS: We Cannot Go TO The World Cup By Flipping A Coin
Maldives Sri Lanka

“We deserve it!” Petar Segrt said after Maldives go through on winning a toss. We cannot go to the World Cup by flipping a coin!

To be fair to Sri Lanka, They were the better team. Better team because Maldives was extremely lucky when Maldives played against Sri Lanka, when Sri Lanka had a perfectly good goal which was disallowed. Reply since showed that that goal should have stood. Had SAFF used the FIFA system of VAR (Video Assistant Referee), Maldives would be out of the tournament!

So we are a blessed people, I can say. Sometimes it’s about luck and today you get another chance to play with the emotions of the nation Mr Segrt.

It’s a shame. We are not a proud people anymore. We didn’t win a single game. Didn’t even score a single goal. You left the inspirational leaders at home arrogantly. People who have performed for us. The proven players.

You spoke of the draw which is favorable for Sri Lanka. Do you take us Maldivians for idiots? The draw favored Maldives not Sri Lanka. You had a chance to observe both the teams play before The Maldivian team even started. You got to play a Sri Lankan team that was tired after playing two days ago. The same excuse you gave after the India match.

When India played Sri Lanka, India had not qualified to the semi-finals yet. When they played Maldives they had already qualified. Does that favor Sri Lanka or Maldives? So enough of you excuses! Enough of your lies! Stop talking about Ali Ashfaq after every game. That is your mistake, we know it. You know it.

In all my years as a football fan, I have not seen a Maldivian side that played this badly. With no inspiration. If you are to replace the likes of Ali Ashfaq (Dhagandey), Ismail Easa(Messi), Mohamed Umair, Rilwan Waheed(Riley), Assad Ali(Adubarey) and Ahmed Abdulla (Lily) get us the results.

Hats off for the youngster who have played. They did their best. But that not from you. No one has improved, except for Mohamed Faisal. And his trainer is Maldivian. The same man who trained Sujan Perera of Sri Lanka. That’s right Aslam Abdul Raheem, the goalkeeper trainer. Only the goalkeeper has given an inspirational performance.

Nizam Packeer Ali, Sri Lankan coach was the better man. He did a job. Nepal’s local coach (Bal Gopal Maharjan) did a job for his country.

Where is the talk of the successful camp in Qatar? The success of the camp is not determined by results of some COOPER TESTS that you conducted, but the results of the games that was played. In my opinion it is utter failure. Because I have not seen Maldives suffer to create chances like this before. I think any of the top four teams in Dhivehi Premier League would have done a better job.

By axing our stars and your conflicting reports, the interest in the sport itself has reduced. I have not seen the support for the National team this bad before. You conveniently got rid of the only player the whole Maldives know and you have even tried to tarnish his reputation. Segrt he has apologized as you say. It’s time for you to apologize to the nation, not come up with flimsy excuses, we don’t buy your World Cup talk anymore. Bring back the trophy. I really hope you DO bring back the Trophy. Till then don't talk about the World Cup!
